Newsflash Atlanta! A Soul Train Flash Mob is popping off Sunday

It’s not everyday that you hear about a flash mob a full week in advance. But whatever Atlanta may lack in spontaneity, it more than makes up for in ingenuity.

For proof, peep the press release that popped up in my inbox today:

In honor of the late great Don Cornelius, and in the spirit of the Flash Mob Soul Train lines held in NYC and Chicago, Grammy and Soul Train Award Nominated artist Anthony David and Promoter J. Carter (Sol Fusion ENT) are organizing an Atlanta Soul Train Flash Mob for Sunday, Feb 12th at 3pm at Loca Luna, 550-C Amsterdam Ave NE Atlanta, GA 30306.

After hearing about all the Soul Train flash mobs jumping off in other cities — including the one in NYC as seen in the video below — Atlanta soul man Anthony David took to Twitter and Facebook to pose a simple question: WTF ATL?

He got a resounding response, but when no one stepped up to make it happen, A.D. decided to set the wheels in motion.

“I spoke to Ryan Cameron via twitter,” says David, “and he mentioned it on V103, so then I knew that I had to make SURE it happened.”

After linking with local promoter J. Carter, they settled on Loca Luna, the same location where Carter already throws his day parties on Sundays, featuring live music and DJs. So now it’s on next Sunday in the parking lot of Loca Luna, and everybody’s invited, including ya mama ‘nem.

“Thousands of Atlanta residents from all walks of life are welcome to come and shake it all the way down the Soul Train line, just as Don got us all to do at weddings, family reunions, and gatherings of all kinds.”

Anthony David and J. Carter present ATL Soul Train Line. Free. 3 p.m. Sun., Feb. 12. Loca Luna, 550-C Amsterdam Ave.

And just in case your “Soul Train” fever is boiling too hot to wait until Sunday, this Wednesday’s edition of Fahamu Pecou’s Best of Atlanta award-winning Yo! Karaoke will be a ’70s night, set aside to honor the life and legacy of Don Cornelius. Pecou will even be reprising his role as “Con Dornelius, the lost 70′s icon.”

No cover. Show up wearing ’70s attire, and your first well mixed-drink is on the house. 8 p.m.-12 midnight. Wed., Feb. 8. Pal’s Lounge, 254 Auburn Ave. See flier below jump.
